The locomotives use lead-acid batteries as a power source.
For mines with firedamp gas, battery elements certified EEx e I are used, as well as anti-deflagration power points.
Commercial bipolar power points are utilized for metallic mining.
It is recommendable to charge the battery daily, except when it has been discharged only slightly and its density is above 1.22. The density of a fully charged battery is of 1.27 at 30 degrees centigrade and of 1.15 when 80% discharged. It is recommended that the battery not be discharged more than 80% of its nominal capacity, and NEVER leave a battery discharged.
